Southwestern College celebrating 57th birthday

Southwestern College superintendent and president Dr. Kindred Murillo joined is in studio to talk about the Chula Vista community college’s 57th birthday.

Southwestern College began in 1961 with 1,675 students, today they serve more than 20,000 students.

Thursday marked the college’s 57th birthday, kicking off a month of giving for the college.

Thursday’s celebration was at the Chula Vista campus, but they are holding similar birthday celebrations at each of their centers—National City, San Ysidro and Otay Mesa through the rest of this month.

The college asked the community and alumni who are across the county to donate $5, $7, $57 or any amount. All proceeds benefit student scholarships and college programs—such as SWC Cares
