Southwestern college police under fire after controversial arrest

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A video circulating on social media of Southwestern College campus police arresting a student is facing a lot of criticism.

Initial reports say the student, a Black man, had a handicap placard and was parked in a handicap spot before he was arrested by three White police officers. It’s unclear why the student was arrested.

The college released a statement in response to the video saying, “Southwestern College administration and College Police are committed to ensuring the safety of all students, employees, and visitors. Administration is aware of the incident. Because this is an ongoing investigation, Southwestern College is unable to comment or release any more details. The district is opening an independent investigation.”

Police declined to comment.
