Carnival ‘Splendor’ on way to city by the bay
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – The fire-damaged Carnival cruise ship Splendor is leaving San Diego Bay for further repairs in San Francisco.
A fire in the engine room of the vessel on Nov. 8 stranded about 4,000 passengers on the first leg of a seven-day cruise to the Mexican Riviera.
The Long Beach-based ship was towed into San Diego Bay and was docked at the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal.
Enough repairs were made to the engines to allow the Carnival Splendor to cruise under its own power. However, two tugboats are accompanying the vessel on the multi-day trip, just in case, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
