Stadium Watch: Awaiting more details on Chargers stadium plan
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – It was expected Monday that the Chargers would unveil their plan for a new stadium in downtown San Diego, but that did not happen.
After weeks of speculation, the Chargers will soon give us the detailed plan for a new stadium in downtown San Diego.
Sometime this week, the Chargers will elaborate on their vision of a football stadium combined with a Convention Center.
Fred Maas, who’s been the public face for the project said much of the funding for the joint-use facility would be raised through a hike in the hotel room tax.
Visitors to San Diego currently pay a 10.5 percent hotel tax under the plan from the Chargers.
The tax would be raised by six cents on the dollar to 16.5 percent.
Out of that 6 percent increase, two percent would go to a tourism marketing district and four percent would be spent on the Convention Center/Stadium.
