Torrey Pines Falcons 23, Steele Canyon Cougars 10
RECAP: The Steele Canyon Cougars were on the road this week, as the team traveled to take on the Torrey Pines Falcons. The Cougars were first to put points on the board, with a twenty-six yard field goal by John Lautner. Second quarter, the Falcons answered back tying the score 3 to 3, with a field goal by Tanner Wyandt. Still in the second quarter, Torrey Pines wide receiver Scotty Gange, scores a twenty-three yard touchdown, putting the Falcons in the lead 10 to 3 before the half. The Falcons continued their dominance into the third quarter, scoring in the first fifteen seconds with a sixty-eight yard pass play from Miles Hastings to Michael Gadinis. The Cougars then respond in the fourth quarter, with a three yard pass from Thomas Fishburne to Jacob Jones 17 to 10 Torrey Pines. The Falcons finished off the game with a seventy-four yard touchdown, scored by running back Luke Duerr. Torrey Pines sealing the deal with a final Score of 23-10. The Falcons will now host Santa Fe Christian in a week two match-up, who are coming in to next Fridays game after a 20 to 17 loss against Olympian. Steele Canyon will go on to play Madison for a 6:30pm kick off. PREVIEW: After much anticipation over the Summer, the 2016 football season is finally upon us. In this week one match-up the Steele Canyon Cougars travel to face the Torrey Pines Falcons. Steele Canyon had a good run in their 2015 season, finishing with an overall record of 8-5. The Cougars made their way to the CIF Division 1 Play-offs, but it was the El Camino Wildcats who stopped them in their tracks defeating Steele Canyon 28 to 18 in the semi-final. The Cougars were led by sophomore quarterback Thomas Fishburne, who made a huge impact, proving himself as an underclassman. On the other end The falcons finished with an overall record of 4-8, and will be hosting the Cougars with a 7:00pm kick off under the Friday night lights. For Last seasons opener Torrey Pines ran off with the victory against Steele Canyon, with a score of 28 to 7. Will the Falcons have what it takes to defeat the Cougars yet again?
