Steve Padilla is the new chair of the California Coastal Commission

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Steve Padilla is the first openly LGBT chair of the California Coastal Commission and the first from San Diego County in decades.

Padilla’s priorities include addressing the effects of climate change and sea-level rise, expanding public access to the coast and putting a spotlight on environmental justice for polluted and low-income communities.

In San Diego County, Padilla hopes to address the Del Mar Bluffs, the safe decommissioning of the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant and working with regional leaders to combat the toxic sewage of the Tijuana River.
