Storm cleanup begins

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Cleanup efforts began in earnest Wednesday morning after a late summer storm knocked down trees and power lines around the county late Tuesday afternoon.

Heavy thunderstorms moved across San Diego County Tuesday causing major havoc on roads and downing many trees.

The thunderstorms dropped about an inch to an inch-and-a-half of rain throughout San Diego, according to KUSI meteorologist Mark Mathis.

The SDG&E unplanned outages map indicated up to 11,000 customers lost power throughout San Diego Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

At Montgomery Field, winds tore loose a piece of hangar that knocked over two small airplanes.
