‘Subway Guy’ pleads guilty to child pornography charges

INDIANAPOLIS (KUSI) – A man known as the "Subway Guy" is pleading guilty to child pornography charges.

Jared Fogle said he can never undo what he did.

Fogle now admits participating in a five year criminal scheme to exploit children, including having sex with a minor.

The former face of Subway is now pleading guilty to possessing child pornography, including images of children as young as six and engaging in sexual acts with minors as young as 16.

"Let’s call this what it is, this is about using wealth, status and secrecy to illegally exploit children," said Josh Minkler, a U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Indiana.

Fogle faces between five and 13 years in prison and will have to adhere to a pornography ban and sexual disorders treatment.

It’s a far and fast fall for the fast food pitch man, who rose to fame for losing 245 pounds after following his so-called Subway diet.

He’s been hawking Subway sandwiches since 2000, and even started the Jared Foundation to fight childhood obesity.

Russell Taylor, a friend of Fogle’s and the executive director of the foundation was arrested in April on federal child pornography charges.

According to prosecutors, he secretly recorded minors while they were changing or bathing, sharing some of the material with Fogle.

"Jared Fogle expects to go to prison, he will do his time," said Jeremy Margolis, Fogle’s attorney.

Fogle will be paying our nearly $1.5 million to 14 different victims.

His wife said in a statement on Wednesday"

"I am extremely shocked and disappointed … I am in the process of seeking a dissolution of the marriage."

As part of his plea deal, Fogle — a father of two — will have no unsupervised visits with those children.

Fogle’s family said they are happy he is seeking medical treatment and hope he will make amends when he’s done serving his sentence.
