Suspect captured after fleeing high speed car chase on foot

EL CAJON (KUSI) – A motorist who was stopped by deputies near El Cajon Tuesday ditched his car and fled on foot, but his freedom was short-lived, authorities said.

Deputies stopped the suspect in the vicinity of Ballentyne Street and Greenfield Drive shortly before 9 a.m. He jumped out of the car, which rolled into a nearby vehicle, but was taken into custody in the same area about 10 minutes later, according to the sheriff’s department.

It was not immediately clear what triggered the traffic stop. The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, may have attempted to carjack another motorist in his attempt to escape, CBS 8 reported.
