Suspect in Barrio Logan trolley beating case pleads not guilty

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The man accused of beating and robbing a man who was sleeping at a Barrio Logan trolley station pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of robbery, assault and battery causing serious bodily injury.

26-year-old Dion Lewis Heller was arrested late Sunday night on suspicion of assault and robbery.

Around 10:30 p.m. on the night in question, Heller approached the sleeping victim and began going through his pockets. When the man awoke and discovered Heller, the suspect began to strike him in the face and head.

After escaping the scene with some of the man’s items, Heller boarded a trolley in an attempt to flee but was later arrested. He was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
