Suspect in Skyline slaying arrested

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A suspected gang member is behind bars for allegedly gunning down a Skyline man on a roadside near the victim's home.

Ronnie Leroy Bonaparte, 27, was arrested Wednesday night at a motel in the 5400 block of El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego and booked into county jail on suspicion of murdering 24-year-old Jonathan Gonzalez, SDPD homicide Lt. Kevin Rooney said.

Gonzalez was standing in the 600 block of Chester Street about 2 p.m. Monday when a burgundy Cadillac with chrome rims pulled up near him, Rooney said.

After Gonzalez exchanged a few words with the occupants of the car, a passenger pulled a gun and opened fire on him. The vehicle then sped away to the west on Lisbon Street.

Medics took the victim to Scripps Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest, where he died of a gunshot wound to the chest about four hours later.

Bonaparte is considered the “primary suspect” in the slaying, according to Rooney.

“Detectives continue to work on the identity of Bonaparte's companion,” the lieutenant said.

Police have released no suspected motive for the slaying.

The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned on a murder charge on Friday afternoon.
