SDPD: Clairemont murder suspect apprehended in City Heights

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A officer-involved shooting occurred in City Heights Saturday when the San Diego Police Department received a 911 call of an armed prowler attempting to break into several apartments.

Police arrived at 3810 Winona Avenue and began searching the apartment complex grounds in search of the suspect.

Two Police Detectives approached the apartment complex community room and as they approached the door, the suspect began shooting through the door, missing both officers.

Both officers returned fire and struck the suspect at least once in the torso who surrendered and was taken into custody.

He was transported to Mercy Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Ahmed Hassan Mumin.

While details are still under investigation, police believe Mumin was involved in the AM-PM gas station robbery in Clairemont earlier this week.

Mumin is being charged with murder, armed robbery and attempted murder of two police officers. Once he is released from the hospital, he will be booked into County Jail.

Records show that Mumin was given a security guard license in 2010 and was still using it even though it expired two years later.

Officials are also investigating to see if this man is the same man from an incident in 2009.

A man with the same name was interviewed by federal authorities at the Philadelphia International Airport after arriving from Somalia and told authorities that he knew someone who was recruiting for al-Shabab, the Somali terrorist organization, in the San Diego area.
