Suspected car thief and passenger arrested after high-speed chase

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A suspected car thief and a passenger were arrested following a high-speed chase in south San Diego County early Monday, authorities said.

San Diego police began pursing a stolen Honda Civic on eastbound state Route 54 shortly after 1 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers followed the Civic as it exited the highway at Highland Avenue and continued into National City before entering northbound Interstate 5 near the Mile of Cars, the CHP reported.

After taking the northbound I-5 transition road to northbound Interstate 15, the driver of the Civic crashed the car and was arrested, along with a passenger, according to the CHP. Why the passenger was arrested was not immediately explained.
