Police identify driver in vicious guardrail crash

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Friday 9:43 a.m. – Police identified the driver in Wednesday’s dangerous crash in which a driver had her car impaled by over 20 feet of a guardrail.  

Susy Galvan, a 21-year-old woman, was facing a drunken driving charge Friday after the crash on a freeway transition near Montgomery Field.

Galvan only suffered minor injuries, according to the officer. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI and was subsequently booked into the Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility, Contreras said

Wednesday 8:45 a.m. – A suspected drunk driver crashed her car into a guardrail Thursday morning. The guardrale speared the entirity of the vehicle but the driver managed to walk away with no major injuries.

The accident happened around 6 a.m. when the vehicle was on the connector ramp from the I-805 south to State Route 163 south. While on the ramp, the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove into a guardrail. About 25 feet of the guardrail pierced through the car and exited out the rear window.

The exact circumstances of the crash were not confirmed.

Caltrans crews used a blow torch to detach the guardrail from car.

The woman was taken to a hospital with minor shoulder pain, California Highway Patrol authorities said.

She is expected to be arrested on drunken driving charges, CHP said.
