Suspected DUI hit-and-run driver causes two crashes, one with another alleged drunk driver
NORTH PARK (CNS) – A series of crashes in North Park left four people injured, and two drivers facing drunken driving charges, police said Monday.
Around 11:40 p.m. Sunday, a 42-year-old suspected drunken driver struck two parked cars in a parking lot near Park Boulevard and University Avenue, according to San Diego police Officer David Stafford.
As he was then attempting to drive away, he ran a red light at Park Boulevard and University Avenue and struck a moving vehicle, the officer said.
Ironically, the second motorist was also drunk, Stafford said. That driver suffered a broken neck, but his injuries were not considered life-threatening, and his passenger was also expected to survive, Stafford said.
Both he and his passenger were taken to a hospital.
The original driver, 42 years old, was arrested for suspicion of hit-and-run and felony drunken driving. The man he hit will also face drunken driving charges, Stafford said.
