Suspected truck thief crashes in Vista, arrested

VISTA (CNS) – A 19-year-old man was in custody Monday, accused of leading deputies on a five-mile pursuit that ended when he crashed a stolen pickup into two other vehicles, sending three people to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.

The pursuit began about 1:45 p.m. Sunday, after the stolen 2000 GMC pickup was spotted in a shopping center at South Santa Fe and Civic Center Drive, according to San Diego County sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Forbes.

Deputies pursued David Marquez as he drove the pickup about five miles until he crashed the GMC into two other vehicles at East Vista Way and Vale Terrace Drive, Forbes said in a statement.

A total of three occupants in the two other vehicles were treated for minor injuries at the hospital, he said.

Marquez was booked into the Vista jail on suspicion of auto theft and felony evading.
