SWAT standoff in Oak Park enters 13th hour as suspect refuses to leave home
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A possibly suicidal man holed up in an Oak Park home Friday when police tried to contact him following a domestic dispute, prompting a standoff that began in the late morning and continued into the evening.
The incident began shortly before 9 a.m., when San Diego police received a report that a mother and her adult son were arguing at a residence in the 1600 block of Pentecost Way, near Euclid Avenue and state Route 94, Officer Frank Cali said.
The woman soon left, complaining of a panic attack, but her son refused to exit the home and speak with patrol personnel, he said.
Crisis counselors were called in to try to reason with the man, who made threats to kill himself. It was unclear if he had access to a gun or any other weapons.
The stalemate was ongoing as of 6:45 p.m., police said.
