SWAT team surrounds home in Normal Heights

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A San Diego Police Department SWAT team was engaged in a standoff at a Normal Heights home Friday evening.

Police were responding to a welfare check in Normal Heights after shot was heard inside an apartment near Felton Street and Collier Avenue shortly before 6 p.m., according to San Diego Police Department.

Responding officers then called in SWAT units, where a neighbors were evacuated and standoff ensued. SWAT units entered the home at approximately 8:30 p.m. where a male suspect was found dead of an apparent suicide.

Evacuated neighbors were let back into their homes shortly before 9:30 p.m. SDPD said.
