Sweetwater 24, Imperial 6
The Sweetwater Red Devils have rushed their way to a 3-0 record after beating the Imperial Tigers (1-2) Friday night 24-6.
It started on the Red Devil’s opening drive on the third play from scrimmage when Antonio Garcia took a toss left 56-yards for a touchdown to open the scoring 7-0.
Sweetwater’s second drive started on their own 10 after a fourth down stop to only be denied on the goal line turning the ball back over on downs to Imperial.
The call by Head Coach Brian Hay to go for it on fourth down paid off as Tiger Quarterback Aaron Bonillas dropped back on 3rd & 10 and was sacked by Safety Angel Uolla for a safety.
Imperial’s one glimmer of hope in the first quarter came when Red Devil Quarterback Christian Amon was sacked by Sal Perez and the Tiger’s recovering the ball on the Sweetwater 14. But, Sweetwater dug in on defense once again with their backs against the wall and forced another turnover on downs.
The Red Devil’s last drive before the half went for 60 yards on 7 carries and was capped off by the beautiful blocking of the offensive line and the patience of Raven Middleton who followed his lineman in for a 20-yard touchdown.
Next week, Sweetwater plays Chula Vista in one of the longest-standing rivalries in San Diego County.
In Week 4, Imperial will head back home to play Valley Center
