Sweetwater High School students accused of stealing puppy from owner

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Two Sweetwater High School students were caught Thursday after stealing a pit bull puppy from its owner.

The owner was selling the puppy online for $200 and the two suspects agreed to meet her Thursday morning at the Plaza Bonita parking lot.

The owner drove up and the female suspect met her. The male suspect stayed across the street near the trail head along the Sweetwater River Channel.

The female suspect grabbed the puppy away from the owner and ran toward the male suspect. Both ran westbound down the walking trail.

National City police were notified and headed down both directions of the trail and caught up with the two suspects near the 2nd Avenue Bridge Crossing.

The two suspects were detained and the puppy reunited with its owner.
