The Influence of the “Wal-Mart Moms”

If you believe the latest poll from Public Opinion Strategies, the Democrats have already lost the midterm elections because they have lost the “Wal-Mart Moms”.   The last time the nation cast ballots these voters went for Barak Obama and the Democrats, but maybe not anymore.

“Wal-Mart Moms” are women who have children under 18 and shop at Wal-Mart at least once a month.  They are your neighbors and your relatives.  The label represents working and middle class mothers.  Nearly 17 percent of the people who vote in the key states nationwide fall into this category.

The polling was done by two companies.  One of them leans Republican, the other leans Democrat, but the results tilt clearly to the right.  Most of these “moms” now call themselves Republicans.  Most say they voted for Obama, but will now vote for a Republican to represent them in the House or Senate.  There is one sliver of hope for the Democrats in the aisles of the nearest super-store, many of these voters still say they are have not “totally” made up their mind.

In California, A majority of the “Wal-Mart Moms” polled say they believe Carly Fiorina is the best buy for U.S. Senate, but the numbers are very close and Boxer is hoping for a last minute sale to win their business.

We are two weeks from the elections.  The TV ads are getting nastier and more unbelievable.  It's clear the battle for the final undecided votes will be brutal.  It's also clear you should not get in the way of a “Wal-Mart Mom” looking for a political deal in the aisles of their local big box store.
