Teacher arrested for alleged sexual assault
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A 34-year-old high school teacher believed to be
having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old former student was arrested
Thursday in San Diego.
Kelly Watson was taken into custody at 10:55 a.m. on suspicion of
sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy she met when he was a student in her
class at the New Haven residential school in Vista, said Lt. Anastasia Smith of
the San Diego Police Department.
“Watson was his teacher at New Haven for several semesters from
September 2010 until August 2011,” Smith said.
Sex crimes detectives received a tip about inappropriate conduct between
Watson and the former student on July 30, Smith said.
“As a result of their investigation, detectives determined Watson had
engaged in an inappropriate dating relationship with the juvenile several
months ago,” Smith said.
Watson, who now teaches at Oceanside High School, was booked into Las
Colinas Women's Detention Facility for unlawful sexual intercourse with a
minor.
