Teenage murder suspect arrested in Chula Vista
CHULA VISTA (KUSI) – Police on Thursday arrested an 18-year-old Mexican national who had been a suspect in a murder case in Chula Vista.
Joe Andrew Cortez turned himself in at the San Ysidro Port of Entry following the April 23 murder of Rene Macias Pressa. He was transported from the Chula Vista Police Department to the San Diego County Central Jail for booking.
According to police, it is believed that Cortez and Pressa were co-workers at a Chula Vista restaurant. Cortez was staying the night at Pressa’s apartment on Third Avenue when an argument between the two ensued. Cortez then stabbed Pressa and fled the scene on foot, leaving a blood trail that may have been caused by an injury he suffered in the confrontation.
The cause of the argument between Cortez and Pressa was not immediately known.
