Memorial service held for Encanto teenager who died after crashing bike on trolley tracks

ENCANTO (KUSI) – Wednesday 2:45 p.m. – A memorial service was planned Wednesday afternoon for the 13-year-old San Diego boy who died after hitting his head when he fell off his bike.

Jose Guadalupe Hernandez Dominguez lost control of his bike while he and a friend were riding down a steep hill at 61st Street near Imperial Avenue. According to San Diego Police, Dominguez struck a curb and then crashed through the guardrail onto the nearby trolley tracks.

He was pronounced dead at the scene from massive head trauma. 

Tuesday 7:13 a.m. – Authorities Tuesday publicly identified a 13-year-old San Diego boy who died after he fell from his bike in the Encanto neighborhood and struck his head.

Jose Guadalupe Hernandez Dominguez and a friend were riding their bikes down a steep hill on 61st Street near Imperial Avenue when he lost control, struck a curb then crashed through the guardrail to the nearby trolley tracks, according to San Diego police and the county Medical Examiner’s Office.

The boy was thrown from his bike and struck his head on the tracks. Jose died at the scene from massive head trauma, authorities said. He was not wearing a helmet.

Trolley service was interrupted while police conducted their investigation. Trolley riders were bussed around the scene.

Monday 4:06 p.m. – A Teenage boy crashed his bike along the San Diego Trolley tracks, hit his head and died Monday. No trains were involved. 

The accident happened shortly after 2:30 p.m. Monday on the tracks that run parallel to Imperial Avenue at 60th Street, in the Encanto district of southeast San Diego.   

Witnesses said the boy, 14, was riding his bike at a high rate of speed down a steep hill when he hit a fence and was launched an estimated 10 feet into the air before hitting his head on the tracks. The Trolley was not involved in the accident.   

The boy was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene, due to massive head trauma.   

Trolley service was interrupted while the investigation continued and Trolley riders were bussed around the scene.   

San Diego Police were investigating the incident. The victim’s identity was not released.
