Temecula fire reaches 95 percent containment
TEMECULA (KUSI) — The fire that started on the side of Interstate 15 in Temecula was 95 percent contained Tuesday morning, according to Cal Fire.
The fire along the shoulder of southbound Interstate 15 just south of Temecula Parkway broke out late Saturday around noon. Almost 400 firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze over the weekend. One firefighter suffered a minor injury, according to Cal Fire.
The fire broke out amid the first major heat wave of the summer season. High temperatures of 114 degrees in Thermal set a daily heat record Friday and tied one Sunday. Fire officials were hopeful a cool down this week would help their efforts to extinguish the blaze.
