Temporary parking lot opens to the public in Hillcrest

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A 35-space temporary parking lot in crowded Hillcrest opened to the public Thursday.

The lot is located on the southwest corner of Washington and Front streets, and will cost 50 cents an hour for a maximum of 12 hours.

The catch is that the location is the site of the future Hillcrest-Mission Hills Library, so the lot will be shut down when construction begins. City of San Diego officials estimate work on the library should start in the spring of 2016.

The lot will include two handicapped spaces and lighting, according to the office of Councilman Todd Gloria.

Hillcrest is a thriving commercial and residential district with numerous restaurants and nightclubs, but the area has limited parking.
