Ten arrested on suspicion of DUI at SDPD checkpoint

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A DUI checkpoint in San Diego resulted in 10 people being arrested on suspicion of DUI, authorities said Saturday.

The checkpoint was located at 1400 G Street and was in effect between 10:50 p.m. Friday and 3:05 a.m. Saturday, according to Officer Mark McCullough of the San Diego Police Department.

Nearly 2,000 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 743 were screened, McCullough said.

In addition to the 10 DUI arrests, two drivers were cited or arrested for driving without a license or with a suspended license, six other citations were issued and 10 vehicles were impounded, said McCullough.

Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public, McCullough said.
