The 27th annual San Diego Latino Film Festival celebrates Latino cinema, arts & culture
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The 27th annual San Diego Latino Film Festival is back and better than ever!
The festival has grown from a modest student film festival (Cine Estudiantil) into one of the largest and most well-respected Latinx film festivals in the world! The San Diego Latino Film Festival was born out of a desire to challenge the negative depiction of Latinx in cinema and mass-media. Now, the festival’s mission extends beyond this to exist as a direct confrontation to the oppression of the Latinx community.
This year’s celebrations will include a Chicano Film Retrospective made possible by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the SOMOS LGBTQ movie showcase co-presented by San Diego Pride.
The festival will feature over 170 films from Latin America, the United States, and Spain, celebrity appearances, live concerts & performances at the Sonido Latino stage, as well as the 5th Annual Sabor Latino, a Food, Beer & Wine Fest.
