“The Bearded Bandit” faces 20 years in prison
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The vista man who robbed three banks last fall, making off with more than $7,600, will be sentenced in July.
Christopher Andrew Gibson, 26, pleaded guilty and now faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000.
Gibson’s shaggy facial hair earned him the nickname “the Bearded Bandit.”
According to his plea agreement, Gibson entered a Wells Fargo office on Saturn Boulevard in San Diego on Oct. 7 and handed a bank employee a note reading, “I know your training. No dye packs. No GPS devices. I want $4,567. Hurry, cause I’m not waiting all day.”
Gibson then took approximately $1,400 from the clerk and fled.
Gibson admitted to passing similar notes while robbing Chase Bank branches in Vista on Oct. 15 and Nov. 6.
