The Schimka’s Christmas display returns to help raise funds for the Stein Education Center

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The Schimka family returns this holiday season with their extravagant display accompanied by Christmas music.

The family has once again partnered with the non-profit Stein Education Center in Mission Valley. The Schimka family will be funding the Stein Education Center’s two-week long Winter Camp for this year, as well as helping them purchase educational toys and therapeutic items for the kids at Stein.

Randy Schimka uses nine miles of wire to light up the neighborhood and the tradition started in 2005. Randy’s son Brandon is diagnosed with autism and in 2005 he showed a lot of interest in all the lights and decorations in their neighborhood.

Randy came up with the idea that they could build their own Christmas display and it could be something they would work on together. Brandon was very enthusiastic about the idea, so the Schimka’s worked all year to create their first large scale Christmas lighting display from scratch.

The tradition grew year after year, also getting the community involved, to help donate to a great cause.

You can find the display at 5306 Belardo Dr., San Diego, CA 92124.

If it rains, the Schimka’s may may turn off the lights for safety.
