The Coast Guard celebrates the service’s 230th birthday

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The Coast Guard will celebrate the service’s 230th birthday Aug. 4, 2020.

Coast Guard Day commemorates the founding of the United States Coast Guard as the Revenue Cutter Service on August 4, 1790, by then-Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton.

Congress authorized the building of a fleet of the first ten Revenue Service cutters, whose responsibility would be enforcement of the first tariff laws enacted by the U.S. Congress under the U.S. Constitution.

Lt. Lexi Chavarria-Aguilar joined Good Morning San Diego via Zoom call from an HH60 Jayhawk helicopter to discuss the Coast Guard.
