The death of a baby gives one man a reason to live

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Harold Sherman is a recovering alcoholic and drug addict who was thrown into the national spotlight when he found the body of a murdered infant while he was combing through an Imperial Beach dumpster looking for cans.

Sherman found three-week-old Eliza Delacruz inside a bag filled with trash. He thought he had found a doll.

He soon realized he had found a dead baby.

What he didn’t know was that she had been murdered as part of a most diabolical crime spree, one that started hours earlier in Long Beach.

A gunmen burst into Eliza’s parents home, shot her father, shot her mother, shot her uncle and then snatched up Eliza and headed for San Diego.

Sherman immediately notified the authorities.

That is why he was thanked and honored by the Imperial Beach community on Saturday.

Sherman has been able to move on from his homeless and drug-addicted lifestyle because of his discovery of baby Eliza. It served as a wake-up call to end his life on the streets.

In death of a baby girl, a man has been given a reason to live a better life.
