The PPR is Watching You
On Saturday, December 17th, the San Diego high school football community will gather inside the hanger deck of the USS Midway Museum. The occasion? The 18th Annual Silver Pigskin Gala. At approximately 7:55 PST, we will learn the 18th name to be immortalized on the side of the Prestigious Silver Pigskin Trophy. Which 6 athletes will be sitting on our podium? Only will time will tell but rest assured the vetting process is already underway.
Below is our preliminary Silver Pigskin watch list. These are the names we are currently considering for high school football’s most coveted trophy. Most of the names are seniors, but there a handful of juniors we’re keeping tabs on. But clearly, an underclassman will have to put up "Reggie Bush-like" numbers to be move past an upperclassman.
This list is a living breathing document. It will change week to week. Some names will be added, others will disappear. Experience has also taught us that we usually miss a name or two. That’s where you come in. Is there somebody you feel deserves Silver Pigskin attention? Make your case in 25 words or less. (One author’s note: an email from a coach or AD carries more weight than one from Mom or Dad.)
We’ve also included our list of athletes being considered for the PPR Iron Hog Award. The Iron Hog is awarded annually to San Diego county’s top interior lineman.
Again, this document will be posted on our website and will be updated on a weekly basis. The list tends to grow for the first 6 weeks of the season, and then begins to shrink. So don’t be discouraged if your name isn’t on it today. It’s much more important to be listed the week before Thanksgiving.
