The Veterans Museum honored retired Brigadier General Robert Cardenas
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The Veterans Museum at Balboa Park honored retired Brigadier General Robert Cardenas Saturday.
A bust of Cardenas was sculpted and was unveiled in its permanent location adjacent to a replica B-24 bomber Cardenas flew in World War II. The bust is representative of all air crews and ground crews making wartime and peacetime missions possible.
The B-24 bomber in Balboa Park needed a pilot and General Cardenas is a pilot who made history on several occasions over his 34-year military career. Funds were raised and a bust was sculpted for the bomber. The B-24 was an instrumental aircraft in World War II and helped to pave the way to the Normandy invasion. The ceremony date was scheduled for June 6, to help mark the 71st anniversary of D-Day.
