‘The Voice’ singer Christina Grimmie shot and killed after concert in Orlando

ORLANDO (KUSI) — 22-year-old Christina Grimmie was shot and killed while greeting fans and signing autographs after performing at a concert in Orlando, Florida late Friday night. Grimmie was a contestant on "The Voice" in 2014, placing third in season six of the competition. The motive of the shooter remains unclear, and authorities are continuing their investigation. Officials are going through the man’s computer, phone and other belongings. 

The assailant traveled from another city to confront Grimmie, according to Orlando Police Chief John Mina. The shooting occurred at The Plaza Live, where Grimmie was scheduled to perform. Grimmie’s brother caught and tackled the shooter, but the shooter proceeded to shoot and kill himself.

Police indicate the shooter brought two guns to Orlando, along with a hunting knife and additional loaded magazines. 

Grimmie was considered to be in critical condition when she was hospitalized, but died early Saturday morning. Grimmie rose to fame, creating a huge following on YouTube where she posted her versions of popular hits.
