Therapy dog makes visit to hospitalized Officer Irwin
San Diego’s famous therapy dog, Chopper The Biker Dog, made a special visit Tuesday to a San Diego Police Officer who was critically injured in a shooting in Southcrest last week.
Officer Wade Irwin is recovering from surgery at UC San Diego Medical center after a being shot in the throat during a patrol stop in Southcrest late Thursday. His fellow officer, Jonathan J.D. DeGuzman was killed.
Chopper wrote on his Facebook Page:
"Today was a very special day, a very emotional day for me. I laid in a hospital bed with a SD Police Officer who came so very close to losing his life 5 days ago in the line of duty. His partner lost his life that night. All I could do is lay here and comfort this officer, hoping he would feel the love I have for him. I kept thinking, I wish there was something I could have done, that I could have been there….to save his partner’s life!!! <3 All I could do is give my ?#ChopperLove ?#Prayers <3"
6-year-old Boston Terrier also recently visited the growing memorial outside SDPD headquarters.
Chopper mission is “to bring smiles, joy, love and happiness to all” and we think he’s doing an excellent job.
