Third suspect arrested in connection to 2011 gang-related shooting
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A third suspect was arrested Saturday in connection with the 2011 gang-related shooting death of a 28-year-old man near San Diego's Manzanita Canyon.
Callie Beasley, 25, was arrested in connection with the murder of Cordell King.
On Friday, detectives arrested two other suspects. They were identified as 28-year-old Jennifer Lee Whitmer of Lincoln Park and Dionte J. Simpson, 25, who has been in custody at the South Bay Detention Facility on unrelated charges since May 2014, police said. Whitmer was arrested at her home.
King was standing near the sidewalk in the 4600 block of Thorn Street just after 5 p.m. on April 17, 2011, when a vehicle with four suspects inside pulled up to him and stopped, Lt. Paul Rorrison of the San Diego Police Department's Homicide Unit said.
"Several gunshots were fired at Cordell, striking him several times in the torso,'' he said.
According to Rorrison, the vehicle returned to the scene and shot King several more times.
Officers found King lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the lieutenant said.
Rorrison said the investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are anticipated.
