Three-day breast cancer walk kicks off in Del Mar

DEL MAR (KUSI) — The Susan G. Komen three-day walk for break cancer kicked off in Del Mar Friday.

It’s a long trek, but participants were motivated, mainly because most were walking in honor of a loved one.

Walkers came from all over to show support for breast cancer patients, victims and survivors.

Thee three-day event that started in Del Mar will ultimately end up at Petco Park in downtown San Diego.

Each day is broken up into 20-mile journeys that wrap up at Komen camp, where walkers camp out and spend the night.

Men and women participate in the event and most are walking in honor of a loved one. Memories of them are motivation for them to keep going.

You can enter as an individual or as a team. Costumes and the color pink are not required but highly recommended.

There are seven three-day walks all around the country, from Seattle to Philadelphia. Walkers must raise money to participate, all of which goes to breast cancer research. The 60-mile journey will wrap up on Sunday with a celebratory closing ceremony.
