Three injured in multi-vehicle crash in Pt. Loma

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Three out of the four drivers involved a chain of collisions in the Point Loma area Thursday were hospitalized, police said.

The collisions at Atascadero Drive and Nimitz Boulevard were reported at 5:19 a.m., according to San Diego police Officer Frank Cali.

A 26-year-old man driving a 2008 Chevrolet shuttle van north on Nimitz Boulevard turned left at Atascadero Drive and hit a southbound 2006 Ford 500 sedan driven by a 52-year-old woman, Cali said.

The back end of the sedan swung around upon impact and hit a 2009 Toyota Tacoma that was also headed south on Nimitz Boulevard at the time, he said, adding the Toyota’s driver was a 42-year-old man.

Then, another southbound vehicle — a 2002 Ford F150 — rear-ended the Toyota, according to Cali. The driver of the Ford pickup was also identified as a 42-year-old man.

All of the drivers involved, except for the driver of the Toyota, were taken to a local hospital to treat a variety of injuries.

The shuttle van driver fractured his right forearm; the woman in the sedan had an open fracture to her right ankle and possibly a broken left ankle; and the Ford pickup driver complained of chest pain, Cali said, adding that the Toyota driver complained of pain but did not go to the hospital.
