Three people killed over five-hour span in Valley Center police incidents

VALLEY CENTER (KUSI) — Three people were dead in Valley Center Sunday after two separate police incidents took place over a five-hour span.

First, a man was shot and killed by police at an officer-involved shooting in Escondido, a sheriff’s lieutenant said Sunday.

Escondido police officers responded a little after 7:30 p.m. Saturday to a disturbance call in the 1400 block of Timber Glen, and reported a possible suspect fleeing the area in a vehicle

“The suspect stopped near the entrance to the casino and confrontation ensued with officers,” he said. “An officer-involved shooting resulted and the suspect was apparently struck by gunfire.”
Paramedics rushed him to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries, said Lt. Rich Williams of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Later, at around 1 a.m Sunday, two people were killed and two more were injured after a police chase in Valley Center, just miles away from the officer-involved shooting.

Police located a Honda Accord that had been reported stolen out of Escondido. Deputies initiated a pursuit while a police helicopter flew above.

Due to speeds and weather conditions, the pursuit was terminated and the helicopter followed the vehicle. Shortly after, the stolen vehicle drove into oncoming traffic, crashing head-on with a small vehicle.

The suspect vehicle was occupied by three males. The driver and passenger were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The third suspect was transported to the hospital for trauma type injuries. The victim in the other vehicle sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital for treatment. CHP is handing the investigation.
