Thunderstorms reach inland areas of San Diego County

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — The National Weather Service in San Diego issued a thunderstorm warning and a flash flood warning for San Diego County Tuesday afternoon.

A NWS Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for South central San Diego County until 2:30 p.m. Tuesday after a severe thunderstorm reached Alpine. Wind gusts and hail may be possible during the storm. 

The thunderstorm was moving west, the NWS said.

El Cajon, Alpine, Santee, Rancho San Diego, Lakeside, Flinn Springs, Viejas Indian Reservation and Jamul could be affected. People in the area were advised to move indoors, to the lowest possible levels.

A Flash Flood Warning was also issued Tuesday until 4:30 p.m.

Areas likely to experience flooding include Alpine, Barona Indian Reservation, Captain Frande Indian Reservation, Flinn Springs, Viejas Indian Reservation and Harbison Canyon.  

The NWS advised people that may be affected by flash floods to move to higher ground.

Rare summer rain and thunderstorms touched down in parts of San Diego County Tuesday morning as monsoonal moisture pushes over the mountains and toward the coast.
