Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge and Border Field State Park shorelines reopened

IMPERIAL BEACH (KUSI) — The Tijuana Slough National Wildlife Refuge and Border Field State Park shorelines were declared open to swimmers Tuesday by the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health.

Recent testing confirmed that the water quality in those areas meet state health standards following recent Tijuana River flows that were contaminated.

The area affected includes the beach line from the International Border to the south end of Seacoast Drive.

The area was closed to water contact for weeks due to sewage-contaminated flows from the Tijuana River entering the United States.
