Big rig crash shuts down all lanes of I-5 in Del Mar

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Both sides of the Interstate 5 in Del Mar were closed after a big-rig began to hydroplane across all lanes of the southbound I-5 before it hit the center median.

The combination tractor/trailer came to a stop near the Via de la Valle exit in Del Mar, but was jackknifed, blocking southbound lanes of the I-5, according to California Highway Patrol. CHP shut down all lanes of the southbound I-5 when they arrived on scene and later the shut down the northbound I-5.

The northbound 1-5 was re-opened shortly after 6:00 a.m. but traffic was slow. Southbound lanes remained closed. Almost two hours later, all southbound lanes but one were re-opened, according to Caltrans.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
