Treating the Whole Patient: Cancer counseling program launches

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The Clearity Foundation and Susan Poorman Blackie Ovarian Cancer Foundation (SPB Foundation) partnered to recently launched Steps Through OC, a national program to support patients, survivors and their families through the unique challenges they face following an ovarian cancer diagnosis.

Steps Through OC says they combine professional psychosocial care with credible, practical information and resources specific to ovarian cancer; a disease that is usually diagnosed at an advanced stage, often recurs and requires long-term support for survivors and caregivers.

This new program merges the expertise in ovarian cancer science, treatment management and psychology to provide a structured, lasting, one-on-one relationship between a mental health professional counselor with ovarian cancer expertise and someone impacted by the disease.

Steps Through OC already has 75 participants already enrolled and plans to enroll up to 150 participants in its yearlong pilot phase and expand with additional funding and strategic partnerships.

Registration for Steps Through OC is available online at or by calling (866) 830-5134.
