Truck flies off overpass in Mission Valley
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A man was seriously injured over the weekend when his truck launched off a freeway overpass in Mission Valley and fell more than 50 feet before hitting a building.
The crash was reported to the CHP at 2:56 p.m. today at the connector-ramp overpass from westbound Interstate 8 to northbound Interstate 805, according to a CHP dispatcher. The truck launched off the ramp and fell more than 50 feet before hitting the roof and the side of the Dave & Buster’s restaurant at 2931 Camino Del Rio North.
San Diego Fire-Rescue Department personnel dispatched at 3 p.m. found the driver inside the truck with major trauma injuries, according to a SDFRD dispatcher. The truck came to a rest upright next to the restaurant after hitting the roof and side of the building.
A paramedic told a dispatcher the man was alert but complaining of severe back pain. The paramedic estimated the truck fell from a height of 50 to 75 feet.
The man was extracted from the damaged vehicle and taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital for treatment, according to the paramedic.
Cal Trans tweeted at 3:21 p.m. that the connector-ramp overpass from westbound I-8 to northbound I-805 was closed.
Officials were examining the restaurant to ensure its structural integrity, according to a dispatcher.
