Two boys jailed in sex assault of teenage girls in park

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Two 16-year-old boys were behind bars Friday for allegedly abducting a pair of teenage girls in a dark Rancho Penasquitos park over the Labor Day weekend and sexually assaulting them at knifepoint.

The suspects, whose names were withheld because they are minors, were arrested Thursday — one in the Black Mountain Ranch district and the other in Otay Mesa West, according to police.

One of the boys lives about 100 yards from the scene of the crime, and the other is a National City resident, SDPD sex-crimes Lt. Rudy Tai told reporters during a briefing this afternoon.

The victims, ages 15 and 16, were attending a family party in the 12600 block of Spindletop Road on Saturday evening when they took a walk, according to investigators.

They were sitting under a tree about 8:15 p.m. when two teenage boys walked by them on a pedestrian path, police said.

Moments later, the boys grabbed the girls from behind, and one put a knife to the older victim's throat while his cohort put his hand over the other one's mouth.

The assailants then forced the girls into a more secluded part of the park and sexually assaulted them for 20 to 30 minutes, police said. The attackers finally fled when a parent of one of the victims came looking for the girls.

Hearing the adult calling the girls' names, the assailants ordered the victims to walk away, then climbed onto a single bicycle and rode away, according to police.

The girls, both of whom live in Clairemont, told detectives the assailants spoke English to them and Spanish between themselves.
