Two San Diego students are named Presidential Scholars

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Two students from Canyon Crest Academy were recently named Presidential Scholars.

Michael Chen and Anne Liu were among 10 California students to be honored as national scholars for academic excellence.

They both are good at managing time and juggling among academics, music, and community volunteering. Both had just played as lead soloists at separate concerts this month playing full concerti with orchestra.

Michael played two large symphonic music by Chinese and American composers, to promote culture understanding and also as a tribute to his educator grandfather who passed away 10 years ago.

The concerts all look easy and smooth; in background, all musicians work hard, struggle and have doubts, but eventually overcome. So the training to become a musician helped a lot in other aspects of life.

Anne is one of the most accomplished young pianists in the country, having played multiple times at Carnegie Hall (among other places.) She created a program for young students to learn mental practice after she suffered from loss of hearing.
