Two-story house fire in Mira Mesa

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A just-parked car burst into flames in a garage attached to a Mira Mesa home Thursday, causing about $200,000 damage, authorities said.

The noninjury blaze in the 8600 block of Frobisher Street erupted about 8 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

It took firefighters roughly 20 minutes to douse the flames, SDFRD Capt. Joe Amador said. The crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to the house.

Investigators estimated that the fire caused $150,000 damage to the structure and $50,000 damage to its contents.

The residents told investigators they parked their 1988 BMW sedan about 10 minutes before they noticed smoke and flames, Amador said. It was unclear why the car caught fire.
