Two teens accused of defacing American flags plead not guilty to vandalism

VISTA (CNS) – Two 18-year-olds accused of defacing American flags in a senior housing neighborhood pleaded not guilty Tuesday to felony vandalism charges.

Breanna Serrato and Daniel Moran allegedly spray-painted three flags — writing “(expletive) USA” on one of them — in the 3800 block of Rosemary Way in Oceanside late on the evening of July 18. A surveillance camera captured the crimes, according to Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Cosby.

Serrato and Moran were taken into custody last Tuesday at a home in the 3800 block of Mesa Drive.

Each faces up to three years in state prison if convicted.

Deputy District Attorney Jack Wang said he expects to file charges against a third suspect soon.

Serrato and Moran will be back in court Oct. 21 for a readiness conference and Nov. 12 for a preliminary hearing.
