University City 47, San Ysidro 12
The University Centurions took a trip to the South Bay to face off against the San Ysidro Cougars in a non-divisional matchup. This one was all Centurions as Coach Charles James masterminded an impressive victory 47-12.
The Centurions Running back Quarzahn Thomas had two first half rushing touchdowns. Wide Receiver, Jordan Tatro came around and took a reverse from Dominic Lewis for a 73-yard touchdown to put University City up 20-6. Then defense took over as the Centurions picked off a pass for a touchdown to go up 27-6 at the half. University City held San Ysidro to only two touchdowns.
Early in the first half, the Cougars were making it a game with a 90-yard kickoff return by Corey Maddox that was called back due to a holding penalty. That play would of put the Cougars up by a score. That flag appeared to take the life out of the Cougars as momentum shifted back to the Centurions. The Cougars Fullback Mohammed Surkhi rushed for a one-yard touchdown for their first score of the game.
The Centurions will face off against San Diego High School next week at home and look to build off their momentum from this week. New Head Coach Brandon Hawkins looks to bounce back next week at Mater Dei Catholic in a non-conference game.
